Check that one out on Steam if you get time, it looks really promising! There's a few new games coming out Gods of Sand that are (by their admission) S&S inspired, so that's really cool.
I think if you make a game people like enough to want to build their own version, you've done something right. When I first saw it, I thought 'Damn, they've made a nicer looking version of my game!', there are some references that I feel are a *little* too close to S&S ( the farting, some of the taunt quotes seem really similar to the ones I wrote in S&S etc), but honestly they've done a great job and really put in a ton of work into it, clearly a labour of love and I wish them well, they have my blessing. Oh yeah, I've heard of Warriors Rise To Glory! I think they even mention on their Steam Page somewhere ( or it might have been in an interview ) they were inspired by Swords and Sandals. Each week I'll do a reddit post on this channel with some bullet points of where it's at - I already started doing that on the Discord, so I'll keep it going here too! I'm really hoping to be able to bring that 'casual but deep' approach to S&S VI, so far its looking really promising ( reminds me most of S&S III ! ) and I look forward to bringing more info on it in the coming months. I sort of lost my way in some of the later games, S&S V got pretty big, S&S Pirates was a bit aimless (in that I should have probably done a proper story / quest thing ), S&S Medieval wasn't even supposed to be an S&S game, and so on! However, I was really proud of Crusader Redux even with its bugs. So now with a family, kids and so on, I literally have only 10 minute chunks to play games, so I'm more serious now than ever about making games that won't waste too much of your time getting into them, and that you can see progress in bite sized pieces, pretty quickly.
I think my philosophy back in the day was "Make a version of the games I like to play, but if I only had 10 minutes to play it."Īnd you know, the funny thing is, even back then I had loads of time to play/make games as I was in my early 20s, single, no commitments. You really hit the nail on the head with the time commitment of triple A games vs the more casual nature of the S&S games. Oh man, thank you so much for this comment! (and for the Silver!) Is it a ripoff of your game or do you know about it ? I also wanted to ask you, around one year ago I found this game "Warriors: Rise to Glory!" on steam, it's in early access and it's been for while now and it's, at least with its mechanics ,similar to the S&S 1 but bit less complex with emphasis on 3D. It's something you can play while listening to boss or teacher, you can play it while working, or you play it while having a deep conversation with your friends without losing the focus on the conversation. I think there's many people on home office or students having online calsses ,because of the global pandemic, that could appreciate game like S&S. You can play for a bit many times per day few dozen minutes each or play it for hours straight.
You don't have to take break from whatever you doing to just play a game for few hours but with the S&S game it gives you this comfort of choice. Because all the entertaiment industry is so focused on these huge AAA releases with 15-20 hours of gameplay and it mostly brings player just few days of content, that he will most likley go through in one or just few takes and when the main story line is finised there's just very limited amout of gameplay left.īut with S&S it's not the case bcs it doesn't require you to sit down and invest 8 hours a day straight into it.Īnd that's one of the charms of S&S, it's basically part of same group as and main reason as and why are mobile games or in-browser games so popular. I was so happy to see S&S 2 Redux and S&S Medival on Google Play two maybe almost three years ago I immediately bought it and played through all of it once again.Īnd I really think there's definitely still place for it even as today. I remember playing S&S I and II through elementary school and I consider it both to be absolute classics and I also rembmer loving the new content S&S III brought while I was on high school. I'm glad to finally be able to see the mastermind behind S&S franchise, I'm a huuge fan and I was wondering if there is any possible opportunity of new S&S happening now for quite some time as someone who grew up on your games, as many in there I belive.
